Humans have fought in hand-to-hand combat since before the dawn of history. Boxing as an organized sport may have its origin in the ancient Greeks as an Olympic game in BC 688.

Boxing evolved from 16th- and 18th-century prizefights, largely in Great Britain, to the forerunner of modern boxing in the mid-19th century with the 1867 introduction of the Marquess of Queensberry Rules.

In modern times, Boxing is often referred to as the sweet science. Perhaps, thats because of the variety of ways fighters choose to use what at first seems like a limited rule set. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. There are many different styles of boxing.

“Style” is often defined as the strategic approach a fighter takes during a bout. No two fighters’ styles are alike, as each is determined by that individual’s physical and mental attributes. Three main styles exist in boxing: outside fighter (“boxer”), brawler (or “slugger”), and Inside fighter (“swarmer”). These styles may be divided into several special subgroups, such as counter puncher, etc. The main philosophy of the styles is, that each style has an advantage over one, but disadvantage over the other one.

One thing that rings true in all styles of Boxing:

In the words of Muhammad Ali: “Float Like a Butterfly. Sting Like a Bee.
